Chubby and the Gang Announces Breakup
Chubby and the Gang, the prominent London punk band fronted by Charlie “Chubby Charles” Manning-Walker, has officially disbanded. The group shared their decision in a succinct message on Instagram, expressing gratitude for the experiences they shared: “Every dog has his day, ours came and went away. Thank you for the good times sorry for the bad ones and for a great six years. Who fuckin loves ya? Chubby does .”
Formed in 2019, Chubby and the Gang quickly became an influential name within the British post-hardcore scene, with Manning-Walker’s background including past projects like Violent Reaction and Arms Race. Several members originated from noteworthy Brighton bands such as Vile Spirit and Gutter Knife. The group debuted with the album Speed Kills in February 2020, produced by Jonah Falco of Fucked Up. The album is recognized for featuring two distinct theme songs, showcasing their eclectic style.
Following their formation, the band’s lineup solidified to include Manning-Walker along with guitarists Ethan Stahl and Tom “Razor” Hardwick, bassist Maegan Brooks Mills, and drummer Joe McMahon. They transitioned to Partisan Records, where they released The Mutt’s Nuts in 2021, followed by an EP titled Labour of Love in early 2022. However, in an unexpected development, Manning-Walker announced that he had replaced all band members except himself before the holiday double single Chubby and the Gang Presents: A Christmas Extravaganza. Their last album, And Then There Was…, was released in October of the previous year.
