Amazon MGM Studios Unveils Trailer for ‘Project Hail Mary’ at CinemaCon
Amazon MGM Studios made a strong impression at its inaugural CinemaCon presentation by unveiling the highly anticipated trailer for Project Hail Mary. This science-fiction film is directed by the renowned duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, known for their innovative storytelling in projects like The Lego Movie and 21 Jump Street, with Ryan Gosling taking the lead role.
Adapted from Andy Weir’s acclaimed 2021 novel, which follows his previous success with The Martian, Project Hail Mary features a screenplay by Drew Goddard. The narrative centers around Ryland Grace, portrayed by Gosling, a former schoolteacher turned astronaut who embarks on a perilous mission to save Earth as the sun faces a catastrophic decline. As the sole survivor of this endeavor, Ryland encounters an alien companion, who shares his goals of preserving the universe.
The trailer, which accompanies Harry Styles’s poignant track “Sign of the Times,” offers a glimpse into the film’s ambitious scope. It promises a blend of cosmic wonder reminiscent of Interstellar while showcasing Gosling’s flair for humor. The cinematography is helmed by Oscar winner Greig Fraser, adding a visually stunning layer to the film.
After the trailer presentation, director Phil Lord addressed the audience, introducing the alien character referred to as “Rocky.” He expressed his enthusiasm for the character, declaring Rocky “the most lovable alien since E.T.” Additionally, Lord highlighted Gosling’s exceptional performance, describing it as “iconic, funny, brave, and heartbreaking.”
The film also features a talented supporting cast, including Oscar nominee Sandra Huller, Ken Leung from Industry, and Lionel Boyce, known for his role in The Bear.
Project Hail Mary is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026, and is already generating significant buzz ahead of its release.
