First Trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s ‘After the Hunt’ Unveiled at CinemaCon
On Wednesday, Amazon MGM Studios released the initial trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s highly anticipated film, ‘After the Hunt,’ which is poised to be a strong contender during this awards season.
The screenplay, crafted by Nora Garrett, dives into the tensions arising at a small college following a student’s serious allegations against a well-respected professor. The student, portrayed by Emmy Award winner Ayo Edebiri, accuses Andrew Garfield’s character, Henrik, of sexual misconduct. Julia Roberts plays Alma, a faculty member who finds herself in a precarious position, balancing her connections to both the accuser and the accused.
In the newly released trailer, Henrik staunchly denies the allegations from Maggie, played by Edebiri. The situation becomes complicated further as Alma faces mounting pressure from students who question her failure to support Maggie. “I don’t feel comfortable having this conversation with you anymore,” Maggie tells Alma, who counters by asserting, “Not everything is supposed to make you comfortable.”
Before the trailer was shown to theater owners, Garfield and Edebiri conveyed their belief that the film would ignite discussions due to its relevant social themes, a hallmark of Guadagnino’s filmmaking style. Garfield praised Guadagnino’s unique storytelling ability, stating, “He has a rare gift of exploring the complexity of what it is to be human, touching on emotions such as desire, envy, betrayal, and love. His stories are visually captivating and deeply life-affirming, which is why we are eager for audiences to experience ‘After the Hunt.’ It’s a film that truly deserves to be seen on the big screen, as I believe it will lead to significant conversations.”
‘After the Hunt’ features a talented cast that also includes Michael Stuhlbarg and Chloe Sevigny. The film is set to hit theaters on October 10.
