Celebrating 45 Years of Harmony: The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus Gala Benefit

The New York City Gay Men’s Chorus (NYCGMC) is gearing up for its annual Gala Benefit, known as Harmony, which coincides with its remarkable 45th Sapphire Anniversary Season and the 25th Silver Anniversary of the Gala. This event promises to showcase an array of talented guest performers.

Among the highlights of the evening will be performances by notable Broadway stars including Aaron J. Albano, recognized for his work in productions such as Aladdin and Newsies; Claybourne Elder, known for roles in Company and Sunday in the Park with George; and Tony-nominee Daniel Reichard, famed for his role in Jersey Boys.

Harmony goes beyond simply being a fundraising event; it serves as a vibrant celebration of music’s unifying power. The Gala not only fosters community and promotes diversity but also plays a pivotal role in advocating for meaningful change within society. Through this event, essential funds are raised to support various artistic initiatives and life-enhancing programs for the LGBTQ+ community.

This year, George Takei will receive special recognition for his outstanding contributions to the LGBTQ community. The Gary Miller Award, named in honor of the chorus’s first conductor, acknowledges individuals whose efforts have significantly impacted the LGBTQ+ population, creating lasting and sustainable change. Other esteemed honorees this year include Seth Rudetsky, James Wesley, and Kelsey Louie.

As it embarks on its 45th season, NYCGMC remains dedicated to its mission of entertaining, educating, and advocating for the LGBTQ+ community. With a membership exceeding 260, the chorus actively performs throughout the New York City boroughs and beyond. Additionally, the Youth Pride Chorus empowers young individuals aged 13-21 while fostering connections within the local school system. The Tonewall a cappella group showcases an innovative musical style for both intimate gatherings and larger events, highlighting the organization’s rich diversity.

The highly anticipated annual event is scheduled for Monday, March 31, 2025, at the Edison Ballroom, located at Hotel Edison (240 West 47th Street, NYC). Festivities will commence at 6:30 PM, featuring an open bar, a three-course dinner, and performances throughout the evening by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, the Youth Pride Chorus, and surprise guests from Broadway. Attendees can also look forward to live and silent auctions as part of this standout event on the social calendar.
