Stephen Colbert Comments on Trump’s Low Polling Numbers
Stephen Colbert responded with humor to Donald Trump’s notably low polling figures, comparing the situation to someone receiving the news that they had experienced the worst sex imaginable. His quip highlighted the severity of Trump’s standing in various polls.
“Trump’s polling figures are reaching historical lows. According to the New York Times, his approval rating during his initial 100 days is at 42%. CNN shows it at 41%, while the ABC, Washington Post, and Ipsos poll places him even lower, at 39%,” Colbert detailed.
He remarked, “Those numbers are unprecedented. That has to be tough to digest. It’s like saying, ‘Babe, when I said you were the worst, I meant since time began.’”
The host pointed out that Trump’s unpopularity in these surveys stems largely from his economic policies. “In the ABC poll, over 70% of Americans believe the current economy is either in bad shape or struggling. The remaining 30% could either be oblivious or part of his cabinet,” Colbert added.
Colbert emphasized Trump’s frustration over these polling results, mentioning the former president’s lengthy tirade on his platform, Truth Social. Trump dismissed the results as “fake polls” generated by “fake news.”
“That might deceive a few people, but it’s not just a couple of polls; it’s a consistent trend across all of them. This is akin to having a mug that proclaims ‘world’s best mom,’ regardless of what my children think—a clear indication of denial,” he jested.
Colbert also brought up Trump’s recent interview with Time Magazine, during which he inaccurately claimed to have negotiated over 200 trade agreements after imposing tariffs globally. “As of now, there have been no such deals,” he clarified.
He humorously added, “For context, 200 agreements would mean that Trump has made deals with all 195 nations and then some. That’s the art of the deal, folks. You know me; I’ve struck deals with Wakanda, Narnia, McDonald’s Playland, and even managed a remarkable agreement with the Princess of Genovia.”
