Coldplay Prepares for Release of Tenth Album, Reflects on Iconic Tracks
Coldplay is set to unveil their tenth studio album, Moon Music, on Friday, October 4. Fans of the band will be intrigued to learn that frontman Chris Martin indicated in a recent interview that the group anticipates only two more albums beyond this one. As anticipation builds for the release, Martin shared insights with Rolling Stone about some of the band’s most pivotal tracks, notably the iconic “Viva La Vida,” which faced significant challenges during its production for the 2008 album Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends.
“Viva La Vida” holds a special place in the band’s history; it not only serves as a quasi-title track for the album but also stands as Coldplay’s first song to reach the number one spot on the charts. However, the journey to its final form was not smooth. According to Martin, their record label, Parlophone, initially showed resistance to the song. He recounted the challenges the band faced:
“Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends was a real rediscovery of joy, and the entire album revolved around this one song. It naturally emerged but took months to craft the right production. We went through several iterations that simply didn’t work. Even once we finished it, our label wanted us to exclude it from the album, arguing that it didn’t sound like the traditional Coldplay. Yet, we felt strongly that while it may differ from our earlier work, it represented our commitment as a band to pursue what feels authentic and follow where the music leads us.”

In addition to their album release preparations, Coldplay made appearances on QVC and The Tonight Show to promote Moon Music. Fans can also look forward to their upcoming performance on SNL this weekend.
