Colman Domingo to be Honored with Montecito Award at Santa Barbara International Film Festival

Colman Domingo has achieved a remarkable milestone in his career within just 24 hours. Following his recognition as the Gotham Award winner for Outstanding Lead Performance in “Sing Sing,” the acclaimed actor has been announced as the recipient of the Montecito Award at the 40th annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival (SBIFF).

Domingo is set to accept this prestigious honor on Friday, February 14, 2025, during a gala event that will showcase his compelling portrayal of Divine G, a prison inmate in Greg Kwedar’s film “Sing Sing.” Industry predictions suggest that Domingo may receive a Best Actor nomination at the Oscars for this role, adding to his accolades following last year’s nomination for “Rustin.” He is also celebrated as a 2022 Emmy winner for his guest appearance on “Euphoria.”

SBIFF’s Commendation

SBIFF’s Executive Director, Roger Durling, praised Domingo’s talent, stating, “Colman is such a committed performer and among the most extraordinary talents in television, theatre, and film. He makes it all seem effortless. His work in ‘Sing Sing’ is unforgettable.”

The Montecito Award

The Montecito Award, named after one of Santa Barbara’s most picturesque areas, has recognized numerous illustrious performers over the years, including Jeffrey Wright, Angela Bassett, Penélope Cruz, and Oprah Winfrey, among others. Domingo joins this distinguished list, underscoring his contributions to the arts.

Event Details

The 40th SBIFF will be held from February 4 to February 15 in various venues including the Riviera Theatre, the new Film Center, and the historic Arlington Theatre. This year’s festival will feature not only film screenings but also filmmaker Q&As, industry panels, and tributes to various celebrities.

“Sing Sing,” produced by A24, initially premiered in a limited release on July 12 and later expanded to a broader audience on August 2. As of now, it is not available for free viewing online or on streaming platforms.
