U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick recently indicated that the Trump administration is on the verge of finalizing its first trade agreement, although specifics remain under wraps. During an interview with CNBC’s Brian Sullivan, Lutnick expressed optimism about the deal, noting that it is not yet fully confirmed pending approval from the relevant foreign authorities.
“I have a deal done, done, done, done, but I need to wait for their Prime Minister and their parliament to give its approval, which I expect shortly,” Lutnick stated, highlighting the urgency and anticipation surrounding the negotiations.
However, he clarified that the negotiations with China are being handled separately, under Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. “My portfolio is the rest of the world’s trade deals,” Lutnick stated, emphasizing his focus on broader international agreements.
