David Horowitz, a prominent conservative commentator, author, and activist, passed away on Tuesday at the age of 86, as reported by the David Horowitz Freedom Center, which he established.
According to the center’s announcement on X, Horowitz succumbed to a prolonged battle with cancer.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David Horowitz, the founding figure of the Center,” the statement read.

David Horowitz, a notable conservative voice, died recently at 86 years old.
His son, Benjamin Horowitz, co-founder of the venture capital firm Andreessen Horowitz, shared a heartfelt obituary on social media, reflecting on his father’s legacy in media and political activism, including his support for President Donald Trump.
When Benjamin met Trump last year, he mentioned his father, prompting an enthusiastic response from the President.
“President Trump’s face lit up instantly, and he urged Benjamin to get David on the phone without delay,” the obituary recounts. “Despite being hospitalized and frail, David was thrilled to hear from the President.”
Born in Queens, Horowitz underwent a significant ideological transformation, having previously identified as a Marxist. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University, followed by a Master’s from the University of California, Berkeley.
He is survived by his wife, April Mullvain, alongside his sons, Benjamin and Jonathan, and daughter, Anne. His daughter, Sarah Rose, sadly passed away in 2008. April was his fourth spouse.

David Horowitz is survived by his wife April Mullvain and children. His daughter, Sarah Rose, died in 2008.
“Ultimately, David devoted himself to helping innumerable individuals and dedicated his entire essence to advancing freedom in society,” the obituary states. “He may not have changed the entire world, but his efforts undoubtedly improved it, especially for those closest to him. He was our hero, and his memory will be cherished forever.”
