Final Performance of “Conversations with Mother” on Broadway
The comedy “Conversations with Mother,” crafted by Matthew Lombardo and featuring performances by Caroline Aaron and Matt Doyle, is set to conclude its run at Theater 555 on Monday, April 21. This marks the end of a journey comprising 17 preview shows and 65 performances.
The production is skillfully directed by Noah Himmelstein and captures a unique narrative that delves into a semi-autobiographical exploration of the relationship between an Italian mother, Maria Collavechio (played by Caroline Aaron), and her gay son (portrayed by Matt Doyle). Spanning over five decades, the play humorously and sometimes exasperatingly highlights the complexities of their bond, juxtaposing the traditional beliefs of a mother with the independent spirit of her son.
Adding to the excitement, “Conversations with Mother” is scheduled to embark on a national tour later this year, aiming to reach broader audiences across the country.
In a significant development, Broadway Licensing has recently acquired worldwide rights to this critically acclaimed comedy, indicating strong interest and enthusiasm for its further distribution.
The show’s creative team features talented individuals including Wilson Chin (set design), Ryan Park (costume design), and Elizabeth Harper (lighting design), among others. Sound design elements are handled by John Gromada, while Caite Hevner manages projection design and Tom Watson oversees hair and wig design. The production also has understudies Antoinette LaVecchia (for Maria) and John Jeffrey Martin (for Bobby) ready to step in as needed. The casting process was skillfully managed by Nick Peciaro, CSA.
