Manning Family Honored with Children’s Hospital Renaming in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS – The Manning family, a prominent figure in New Orleans’s sporting landscape since Archie Manning joined the Saints as quarterback 54 years ago, continues to make a significant impact on the community. Their contributions both on and off the field have earned them a special place in the hearts of many.

At the Louisiana Legacy Gala held recently, it was announced that Children’s Hospital New Orleans would be renamed the Manning Family Children’s Hospital. This change acknowledges the family’s deep-rooted commitment to supporting the health and well-being of children in the area.

During the event, it was noted that the hospital has a core mission of never turning away a child, having treated 585,000 children in the past year alone. Cooper Manning, the eldest son of Archie, shared his personal experiences with the hospital, recalling how his son, Texas Longhorns quarterback Arch Manning, had received care there. Cooper remarked, “I can tell you Arch spent a lot of time at Children’s Hospital, and I was there taking him to get stitches. It’s a special spot, and my other son, Heid, we grew up practicing on that field and seeing the helicopter come in and all the kids taking a knee when they see the helicopter landing.”

He emphasized that the hospital is an integral part of their family’s life in New Orleans, stating, “We’re just flattered to be a part of it.” The evening’s festivities were not only a tribute to the hospital but also honored Archie and Olivia Manning with the first-ever Louisiana Legacy Award for their dedication to children and families across the state and beyond.

Todd Graves, founder of Raising Cane’s and a Louisiana native, made headlines by donating $1 million to support Walker’s Imaginarium—a unique interactive museum for children being developed within the hospital. This initiative is named in memory of Walker Beery, a brave young individual who battled terminal brain cancer. Graves expressed his admiration for Archie Manning, saying, “He’s someone I always wanted to emulate in the community… They gave great care for 600,000 kids this year, and they don’t stop at that.” He commended the hospital for its unwavering commitment to care for children from all backgrounds.

In a heartfelt moment, Archie Manning shared how personal this honor was to him and his family: “To have a hospital named after you, this is not like making second-team All-SEC or anything like that… This happening tonight and renaming this hospital is our family’s finest hour, and we’re very appreciative.” He reflected on the significance of the recognition, stating that it surpasses all of their sports achievements.

The event underscored the lasting impact of the Manning family’s legacy, both in sports and their continued devotion to improving the lives of others. As they celebrate this honor, the Manning family’s journey of philanthropy and community involvement remains influential in New Orleans and serves as a model for others.
