A coroner’s inquest is commencing today to investigate a tragic bus incident in Ottawa from 2019 that resulted in the loss of three lives. The inquest will delve into the events leading to the fatalities of Judy Booth, Bruce Thomlinson, and Anthonia Van Beek. These individuals tragically perished when a double-decker bus operated by OC Transpo veered off course, crashing into a shelter at the Westboro transit station on January 11, 2019.
The accident not only claimed three lives but also injured nearly two dozen others. The collision was particularly severe as the bus’s upper level was compromised when the shelter’s awning struck, leading to extensive damage and crushing several seats.
The driver of the bus was found not guilty of any criminal wrongdoing in 2021. This ongoing coroner’s inquest is projected to last 21 days, with the possibility of a jury providing recommendations aimed at preventing such incidents in the future.
