In light of the recent passing of actor Lance Reddick, the casting for Zeus in the upcoming season of the Percy Jackson series has been updated. According to Variety, accomplished actor Courtney B. Vance has been selected to step into this pivotal role for the second season of the Disney+ adaptation, which is currently in the midst of filming.
Set to return in Season 2, Percy Jackson faces transformed circumstances when he arrives back at Camp Half-Blood after a year. He grapples with evolving dynamics in his friendship with Annabeth, discovers the existence of his cyclops brother, and contends with Grover’s mysterious disappearance. Furthermore, the camp itself is under threat from the forces aligned with Kronos, setting the stage for Percy’s urgent mission that will lead him into the perilous Sea of Monsters, where unexpected revelations await the son of Poseidon.
This upcoming season will draw from The Sea of Monsters, the second book in Rick Riordan’s acclaimed series. Zeus’s character is particularly crucial, serving as an adversary to the main trio comprising Percy, Annabeth, and Grover. Fans can catch up on the first season, which is currently available for streaming on Disney+.
Vance, known for his remarkable versatility as a performer, is a Tony and Primetime Emmy Award-winning actor whose extensive body of work spans stage, film, and television.
