Cristin Milioti is advocating for the revival of Made for Love, a series many have come to miss since its removal from HBO Max. Speaking to the press, including representatives from TV Insider, Milioti discussed her latest role in the upcoming season of Black Mirror while reflecting on her experience with Made for Love.
In the dark comedy, Milioti plays Hazel Green, a woman caught in a tumultuous marriage with tech mogul Byron Gogol, portrayed by Billy Magnussen. Alongside Ray Romano, who plays her father, Milioti navigates the challenges of a life intertwined with technology, ultimately leading her to escape to her father’s home. The second season concluded with a gripping turn of events as Hazel returned to her husband’s world to save her father’s life, highlighting the show’s exploration of technology and personal relationships. The narrative themes bear a resemblance to the chilling tales often found in Black Mirror.
Milioti expressed her disappointment over the show’s cancellation, indicating that it had become locked away as a result of corporate decisions, including a tax write-off that impacted several other series. “It’s heartbreaking to see the show become so inaccessible after the effort we put into it for three years,” she lamented.
She underscored the show’s timely commentary on the current tech landscape, particularly as it relates to influential figures in the tech industry like Elon Musk. “This show had a lot to say about our societal interactions with technology,” Milioti emphasized, suggesting that its messages are more relevant now than ever.
Insisting on the importance of the show’s return, Milioti stated, “There were so many cultural critiques in that show; we need to bring it back to life. I’ve mentioned to various networks the idea of reviving it because it should not be left in obscurity. It’s all stored digitally; let’s get it back out into circulation.” She highlighted the strong dynamics between characters, especially the father-daughter relationship, as one of the show’s many strengths, complemented by an exceptional cast and talented writers.
Originally a casualty of the 2022 merger between WarnerMedia and Discovery Inc., Made for Love stood alongside other notable series such as Westworld and Raised By Wolves in facing removal from the streaming platform. The show is adapted from a novel by Alissa Nutting, which further complicates its journey to a potential revival.
“Justice for Made for Love,” she concluded passionately. “Let’s make it available for audiences once more.”
