Cristin Milioti Discusses Her Return to “Black Mirror” and Future Projects

In a recent interview with “Extra,” actress Cristin Milioti shared her experiences reprising her role as Captain Nanette Cole in the new installment titled “USS Callister: Into Infinity,” which serves as a follow-up to the acclaimed Season 4 episode that debuted in 2017.

Milioti expressed her enthusiasm about returning to the series, stating, “It felt like a mixture of joy and excitement because we all get along so well. Being back together brought a sense of continuity and familiarity that was fantastic.” She reflected on the experience, describing it as feeling like they picked up right where they left off, which added to the overall enjoyment of the project.

However, the actress also noted that stepping back into this character was somewhat surreal. “It felt like a mind-bending experience. While I’ve worked on shows that had multiple seasons, this long gap made it feel like experiencing severe déjà vu,” she remarked, sharing her unique perspective on revisiting a past role.

Delving into the plot, Milioti explained the evolution of her character’s circumstances. “Nanette has liberated them from Daly’s private server, and they find themselves in a new game called Infinity. The stakes are considerably raised because unlike in Daly’s realm where they were invulnerable, in Infinity, they must adhere to its dangerous rules, which means they can die,” she elaborated.

She also highlighted the collaboration with actor Jesse Plemons on some intense flashback scenes, noting, “He is an extraordinary talent, and the chemistry between our characters adds depth to the story. Working in those emotionally charged scenes felt like performing a small, intense play together.”

As fans speculate about a potential third chapter, Milioti hinted at possibilities: “It certainly seems to leave a door ajar for more. Nanette appears to be on the cusp of making some questionable decisions and isn’t actively seeking a way out.” This suggestion fuels excitement for what might lie ahead in the narrative.

In addition to her work on “Black Mirror,” Milioti discussed her hopes for a potential Season 2 of “The Penguin,” where she plays Sofia Falcone, expressing her eagerness to continue embodying the character: “I would love to portray her for as long as they would let me; it was truly a wonderful experience.”

She also touched on her upcoming pilot project titled “Seven Sisters,” collaborating with Elizabeth Olsen. “I met her recently, and she is not only a talented actress but also incredibly kind. I’m excited about the idea of exploring sisterhood in this project,” Milioti shared.

On a lighter note, when asked about the prospect of joining the Marvel universe, Milioti chuckled, saying, “I’ve tried reaching out, but they haven’t shown much interest. I feel like my place is more in the Batman universe.”

Fans can catch up on “Black Mirror” Season 7, which is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
