Cynthia Erivo to Receive Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ 2025 Woman of the Year Award

The Hasty Pudding Theatricals has announced that renowned actress and singer Cynthia Erivo will be honored with the prestigious Woman of the Year Award for 2025. This accolade, which has a rich history dating back to 1951, recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the entertainment industry.

Established as the oldest honor by the Hasty Pudding Theatricals, the Woman of the Year Award has previously celebrated the achievements of numerous illustrious performers including Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, and Anne Hathaway. Most recently, Annette Bening was named the 74th recipient of this distinguished title.

The celebrations for Erivo will commence with a roast ceremony on February 5th at 7:00 PM, where she will be awarded her Pudding Pot at Farkas Hall, a landmark venue in Harvard Square that has hosted the Hasty Pudding Theatricals since 1888. Following this presentation, a press conference will take place at 7:20 PM, after which Erivo will enjoy a performance of the 176th production titled, 101 Damnations.

Hannah Frazer, the Events Coordinator for Man and Woman of the Year, expressed excitement for the event, saying, “We are preparing a warm welcome for Cynthia Erivo. Our team is gearing up with a mix of humor and celebration as we look forward to her arrival next month.”

Daisy Nussbaum, a producer for Hasty Pudding, added a humorous note regarding the roast, suggesting that Erivo might need a little support during the festivities, but assured that the event would be light-hearted and fun.

Cynthia Erivo’s accolades span multiple prestigious awards including Grammy, Emmy, Tony, and several Academy Award nominations. She gained recognition for her powerful performances in productions like THE COLOR PURPLE on Broadway and her recent role as Elphaba in the upcoming film adaptation of the renowned musical WICKED, directed by Jon M. Chu. The film’s first part debuted at the top of the box office, breaking records as the highest-grossing movie based on a Broadway musical in the U.S.

Beyond film, Erivo has been involved in various projects, including her guest role in the second season of POKER FACE, a critically acclaimed series on Peacock, and the film DRIFT, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and follows the journey of a young Liberian refugee.

Erivo’s portrayal of Aretha Franklin in the National Geographic series GENIUS: ARETHA earned her an Emmy nomination. This show stands out as the only authorized scripted series delving into the life of the acclaimed Queen of Soul.

Known for her musical talents as well, Erivo’s debut album, Ch. 1 Vs. 1, released in 2021, reflects her extensive skills as a songwriter and performer, leading her to perform at significant events including the Academy Awards and the Grammy Awards.

Additionally, she has embraced children’s literature with her book, Remember to Dream, Ebere, and is set to play a pivotal role in Disney’s live-action PINOCCHIO, where she portrays the Blue Fairy. Furthermore, she is slated to appear in Apple’s ROAR, a darkly comic anthology series, and is currently producing and starring in a biopic about Sara Forbes Bonetta, a 19th-century Nigerian princess.

Erivo’s production company, Edith’s Daughter, aims to amplify underrepresented stories, and she has been involved in a variety of projects that emphasize social impact and representation in the arts. Her career continues to evolve as she takes on diverse roles and produces meaningful content across different mediums.

With a history of remarkable achievements and a commitment to impactful storytelling, Cynthia Erivo’s recognition as the Hasty Pudding Theatricals’ Woman of the Year is a fitting tribute to her influence and success in the entertainment world.
