Cynthia Erivo Shines in PBS’s Tribute to Henry Mancini
PBS has unveiled a compelling performance clip featuring Cynthia Erivo from the special concert, Great Performances: Henry Mancini 100, held at the Hollywood Bowl. This concert is a heartfelt tribute celebrating the legacy of noted composer Henry Mancini. In the clip, Erivo delivers a moving rendition of “Days of Wine and Roses,” a classic piece first popularized by the 1962 film of the same name. The complete special is now available for streaming on PBS.
A Star-Studded Celebration
This celebratory concert is hosted by the charismatic Jeff Goldblum and features a range of performances from illustrious artists, including Grammy-winning vocalist Michael Bublé, along with Grammy nominees Dave Koz and Monica Mancini, who is also the daughter of Henry Mancini. In addition to the musical performances, the program provides insights into the making of a commemorative album which features contributions from other musical legends such as John Williams, Arturo Sandoval, and Stevie Wonder, along with notable appearances by the late Quincy Jones.
Honoring a Music Icon
The special encompasses the album “Baby Elephant Walk – Encore,” which has garnered a nomination for a 2024 Grammy Award for Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella. The concert is further complemented by a series of interviews with stars from film scores associated with Mancini’s work, along with archival footage and photographic memorabilia. Mancini, a titan in the music world, conducted at the Hollywood Bowl 29 times and is renowned for his mastery in scoring over 125 film and television themes, creating timeless classics such as “Moon River,” “The Pink Panther,” and “Breakfast at Tiffany’s.”
Executive Team Behind the Tribute
The executive producers of this special production include Gregg Field, Tim Swift, Monica Mancini, Felice Mancini, and Christopher Mancini. The production team also features Bill Urban as co-executive producer and Martin Guigui as director. For the Great Performances series, Mitch Owgang and Bill Kabel take on producing roles, with Bill O’Donnell serving as series producer and David Horn in the role of executive producer.
