Cynthia Erivo’s “Worst of Me” Emerges as Top New Music Release
Cynthia Erivo’s latest single, “Worst of Me,” has been crowned the favorite new music release in a recent poll conducted by Billboard.
In a poll published on April 11, voters overwhelmingly selected the Wicked star’s powerful ballad as their top pick from the past week’s music offerings.
With an impressive 73% of the votes, “Worst of Me” outshined competitors such as Lana Del Rey’s “Henry, Come On,” Jessie Murph’s “Blue Strips,” Bon Iver’s SABLE fABLE, and Rauw Alejandro’s “Carita Linda,” among others.
This track is the second single from Erivo’s upcoming sophomore album, I Forgive You, scheduled for release on June 6 under Verve Records/Republic Records. The album not only highlights her exceptional vocal range but also marks a significant milestone in her songwriting career, as she holds co-writing credits on all of its tracks.
“Worst of Me” offers an emotional reflection on ending a toxic relationship, supported by lush string sections and harmonies that amplify the song’s depth. Erivo poignantly expresses, “I came here for love, oh, no I don’t want it anymore. I gave you my home, but you took the worst of me.”
This year is proving to be momentous for Erivo. Following the massive success of Wicked in 2024, she garnered a Best Actress nomination at the 2025 Academy Awards and delivered a remarkable rendition of “Defying Gravity” alongside co-star Ariana Grande. Upcoming highlights include hosting the 2025 Tony Awards and playing the role of Jesus Christ in the Hollywood Bowl’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar. Erivo is also slated to headline WorldPride’s post-parade stage in Washington, D.C. Furthermore, fans can look forward to the release of Wicked: For Good, the concluding segment of the franchise, set to premiere on November 21.
In the same poll, Lana Del Rey’s “Henry, Come On” secured second place with 12% of the votes. This track serves as the lead single from her anticipated country album, The Right Person Will Stay.
