Carvey Takes Center Stage on ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’
In a recent episode of “Real Time With Bill Maher,” comedian Dana Carvey captivated the audience with his lively impersonations, seamlessly transitioning the show into a showcase of his comedic talents.
Carvey humorously opened the segment by declaring, “Welcome to ‘The Dana Carvey Show,’” before Maher could even greet the viewers. This immediately set the tone for a night dominated by Carvey’s performance, with Maher acknowledging him as the main attraction.
Without missing a beat, Carvey introduced his latest impression, a work-in-progress rendition of Elon Musk. “So, Trump’s there,” he started, establishing his scenario. “He’s got the tie. And then Elon is up there talking, right? And I don’t really do it yet, but I’m working on it, okay?”
With the audience eager for more, Carvey dove into his interpretation of Musk, mimicking his unique speech patterns and mannerisms. “Uh, we — we got to go to Mars. We’re going to Mars, and uh, because it comes to save life on planet Earth, we got to go to Mars. This should be really cool, okay?” he stated, drawing laughter from the crowd and a bemused response from Maher.
As the segment progressed, Maher struggled to interject amid Carvey’s energetic routines, managing only a brief “Mmhm” as Carvey transitioned to his well-known portrayal of Donald Trump. “And then you’re good,” Carvey demonstrated, seamlessly adopting the former president’s voice and style. His impersonation highlighted Trump’s characteristic phrasing: “‘What he said! What he said! What he said! He’s a smart cookie. He’s a tough cookie. He’s a — he’s a Cookie Monster. This is why he’s smart. Everybody talks about it. He’s like a ship so high. Excuse me, excuse me, everybody knows it.’”
The charm of Carvey’s impersonations kept him at the forefront, leaving Maher with little room to navigate the conversation. “Now, this — this is why hosts feel so superfluous when you are on,” Maher quipped, acknowledging Carvey’s powerful comedic presence.
