Roots Picnic Set to Celebrate Major Anniversaries in Philadelphia

Roots Picnic will return to its beloved venue at the Mann in Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, on May 31 and June 1. This year’s festival will mark the 30th anniversary of the Roots’ groundbreaking album Do You Want More?!!!??!. Alongside the Roots, attendees can expect riveting performances from a range of iconic artists including D’Angelo, Lenny Kravitz, Meek Mill, GloRilla, Miguel, Tems, Latto, and Kaytranada, among others.

In addition to the Roots’ celebratory performance, Jeezy will honor the 20th anniversary of his influential album Let’s Get It: Thug Motivation 101, while Musiq Soulchild will commemorate 25 years of his classic Aijuswanaseing. Furthermore, J. Period is set to assemble Black Thought, 2 Chainz, and Pusha T for an exclusive live mixtape performance. Fans can also look forward to Crystal Waters joining CeCe Peniston during Rich Medina’s Black House Set. Adam Blackstone will collaborate with Jagged Edge for a special performance, and CeeLo Green will grace the stage as part of Baller Alert’s Backyard Band.

As anticipation builds, more performers will be announced leading up to the event. Presently, the lineup also includes Kur, Elmiene, Lay Banks, Jermaine Dolly, Laila!, Funk Flex, Diamond Kuts, DJ Aktive, Peyton, and Leeyuh Neptune.

Presale tickets will be available starting Tuesday, February 18, at 10 a.m. ET, running until Thursday, February 20, at 10 p.m. ET. The general sale will kick off the following day, February 21, at 10 a.m. ET.

Shawn Gee, President of Live Nation Urban, emphasized the festival’s commitment to celebrating Black culture. He stated, “As other festivals came into the market, we looked at what was not being served in the city of Philadelphia, and it was Black culture. So we went deep into Black culture over the last couple of years, specifically mirroring the various genres of Black music that traditionally aren’t showcased at festivals.”

In addition to the Philadelphia event, the Roots will host A Roots Picnic Experience: The Class of ’95 in Los Angeles in June. This special event will spotlight legendary Nineties rap artists, such as Lil’ Kim, Redman & Method Man, Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, DJ Quik, Raekwon, E-40, Goodie Mob, and Havoc of Mobb Deep, promising a nostalgic experience for hip-hop enthusiasts.
