Daniel Dubois Eyeing Rematch with Oleksandr Usyk After Recent Triumphs
Daniel Dubois, a rising heavyweight contender, feels confident in his ability to defeat Oleksandr Usyk following their first encounter. Dubois faced Usyk for the unified heavyweight title in 2023, where he ultimately lost by count-out in the ninth round, despite making a significant impact in the fight.
Since that bout, Dubois has shown remarkable resilience and growth, achieving the status of IBF Interim champion before being crowned as the full world champion. His recent victory came against Anthony Joshua, where he delivered a decisive knockout, further solidifying his place among the elite in boxing.
The London fighter expressed a strong desire for a rematch with Usyk and believes that his development as a boxer will make a significant difference. “I’m just getting better, improving. They say when you win a world title you improve. So I feel like that’s what’s happening with me. I’m ready to show what I can do again and conquer whoever they put in front of me,” Dubois shared with Sky Sports News.
Dubois acknowledged the need to elevate his performance even further than he did against Joshua. “I’ve got to be even better than I was against AJ. That was just what it was at the time—a special moment—but I need to be even better than I was,” he emphasized.
Oleksandr Usyk has also hinted at the possibility of a rematch, contingent on Dubois winning his next fight against Joseph Parker, scheduled for February 22. Dubois remains focused on this upcoming challenge, aiming to defeat Parker before seeking another showdown with Usyk.
In his quest for victory against Parker, Dubois exuded confidence. “We’ve all got to grow up sometime, run it back,” he urged. He added, “My next fight I’m working towards, I’m ready for it now,” making it clear that his sights are set on success.
Dubois is determined to not let Parker deter his ambitions. “I’m still hungry for more success, more belts. So in my mind, it’s still the same mentality. I’m still the same old dog,” he asserted. “Bring them all on. All I know is I’m ready to fight, and I’m ready to go.” His training regimen has been intense, aimed at showcasing the skills he has developed throughout his career.
He concluded with enthusiasm, “I’m going to display all the skills I picked up along the way throughout my amateur career and my pro career. Whatever round, whatever time it happens, it happens. We’re not looking for anything. I’m going out there to put on a proper display of boxing. Still the kingslayer. I’m the man that beat the man. Bring them on.”
Daniel Dubois v Joseph Parker and the Artur Beterbiev v Dmitry Bivol rematch will be live on Saturday, February 22, on Sky Sports Box Office. Book now!
