Roma Part Ways with Head Coach Daniel De Rossi After Unsuccessful Start
Daniel De Rossi has been relieved of his duties as head coach of AS Roma after a challenging beginning to the Serie A season, which saw the team unable to secure a victory in their initial matches.
The former player, who dedicated nearly 20 years to Roma as a professional, took the managerial reins in January following the departure of José Mourinho. Just a few months later, in June, he had been offered a contract extension that would keep him with the club until 2027.
In a statement issued by the club, they explained that the decision was made with the aim of redirecting the team towards more favorable results at an early point in the season. The statement expressed gratitude towards De Rossi, noting, “A heartfelt thank you to Daniele, who will always be at home at the Giallorossi club, for the work he has done in recent months with passion and dedication.”
De Rossi’s last match in charge ended in a 1-1 stalemate against Genoa, during which he received a red card, further underscoring the challenges faced during his brief tenure. As a result, the team found themselves in a precarious position, sitting 16th in the Serie A standings.
A beloved figure among the fans, De Rossi’s playing days were marked by numerous achievements, and he is recognized for his loyalty to the club from 2001 to 2019. His legacy at Roma remains significant, even as the club looks to reset its direction on the pitch.
