Daredevil’s Emmy Chase: A New Chapter for Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio

The iconic characters Daredevil and Kingpin are set for a fresh confrontation, this time in the spotlight of the Emmy Awards. Disney+ has officially put forth nominations for Charlie Cox, portraying Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, and Vincent D’Onofrio, embodying Wilson Fisk, or Kingpin, for Best Drama Actor in their performances from Daredevil: Born Again.

Despite Cox’s name being synonymous with the title of the series, D’Onofrio’s character commands significant screen presence, sharing the narrative’s focus as the show advances the story established in Netflix’s Daredevil series from 2015 to 2018.

While Cox has yet to receive an Emmy nomination, he has previously earned a Screen Actors Guild Award as part of the ensemble cast of Boardwalk Empire, along with additional nominations for the same series and The Theory of Everything.

D’Onofrio brings some Emmy history with him, having been nominated once for his guest performance on Homicide: Life on the Streets in 1998. This season, Disney+ is additionally nominating Deborah Ann Woll (Karen Page) and Ayelet Zurer (Vanessa Fisk) in the supporting actress category, while Jon Bernthal (Frank Castle, aka Punisher) and Kamar de Los Reyes (Hector Ayala, aka White Tiger) are in contention for guest actor honors.

Although neither Woll nor Zurer has been nominated for an Emmy previously, Woll brings a SAG Award from her work on True Blood in 2010. On the other hand, Bernthal boasts a notable recognition, being a two-time Emmy winner for his guest role in The Bear, while de Los Reyes is yet to receive an Emmy nomination despite his past recognition at the Daytime Emmys for One Life to Live.

This marks the inaugural year for Daredevil: Born Again to be eligible for the Emmys, but the original Daredevil series received five nominations during its tenure, including categories such as sound editing and visual effects, illustrating its impact in the awards circuit.
