The Kashmir Files presents a fictional storyline centered around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Indian-administered Kashmir.
Darshan Kumaar has expressed deep sorrow following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam, describing himself as “shaken and heartbroken.” The actor reflected on the “painful reality” depicted in his film “The Kashmir Files,” emphasizing that witnessing a similar tragedy unfold is utterly devastating.
The attack, which marks the deadliest incident in the region since the 2019 Pulwama attack, took place on a Tuesday at Baisaran, a picturesque meadow in the Anantnag district, which can only be accessed by foot or pony. A group of tourists was specifically targeted, and the Resistance Front — a covert group associated with the banned Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba — has claimed responsibility for this heinous act. Officials have yet to confirm the details officially.
In his remarks to IANS, Darshan stated: “Learning about the Pahalgam terror incident has been incredibly unsettling. The footage is too painful to watch — it serves as a reminder of the harsh realities faced by innocent families who only wished to enjoy a moment together.”
He conveyed his anguish over the sudden loss of life, saying, “In an instant, everything was taken away by this senseless act of terror. It’s heartbreaking.”
Recalling his time shooting in Kashmir, Kumaar shared how he encountered local youth voicing their concerns over the diminishing number of tourists and the impact on their livelihoods. “They were yearning for peace, development, and a hopeful future. This attack is not only an affront to the innocent victims but also a direct blow to Kashmir’s peace and the aspirations of its people,” he remarked.
Furthermore, the actor noted, “Kashmir appeared to be on the path to recovery, and such violence threatens to plunge it back into despair. It’s crucial for us, as a country, to stand together against terrorism.”
He emphasized the importance of the local population raising their voices in solidarity, stating, “The citizens of Kashmir must speak out now more than ever to safeguard their dreams and their children’s futures. While ‘The Kashmir Files’ captured this painful truth, witnessing similar tragedies once more is utterly heartbreaking. We need to act decisively to protect the essence of Kashmir and uphold the spirit of humanity.”
“The Kashmir Files,” directed by Vivek Agnihotri, features a narrative that revolves around the 1990 exodus of Kashmiri Hindus from Indian-administered Kashmir. The film is presented through a lens that characterizes the events leading up to this exodus as a form of genocide.
Starring actors such as Mithun Chakraborty, Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumaar, and Pallavi Joshi, the plot follows a Kashmiri Hindu college student who, after being raised by his exiled grandfather, learns the unsettling truth about his family’s past. Following his grandfather’s death, the student, previously unaware that the exodus was not a benign event, embarks on a journey to uncover the truth regarding his parents’ fates. The storyline alternates between the student’s present-day quest in 2020 and the historical struggles of his family thirty years prior.
