What you need to know
Dbrand has introduced its innovative “Touch Grass” skins and cases designed to replicate the texture of real grass. These unique covers are compatible with over 100 devices, ranging from Google Pixels to MacBooks and Steam Decks. Although initially slated for release last April, the launch was delayed to ensure the realistic grass texture met the company’s standards.
Dbrand’s latest offering allows users to bring a hint of the outdoors into their everyday tech by providing skins and cases that boast an authentic grass-like feel.
The Touch Grass collection extends its reach beyond mobile phones, encompassing devices like Google Pixels, MacBooks, and even the Steam Deck, demonstrating a versatile approach to customization. Despite being launched on April 1, this is not an elaborate prank; the product is genuinely available for purchase.

Dbrand’s April Fools’ legacy
Dbrand is known for its playful approach to April Fools’ Day, often using the occasion to reveal eccentric product concepts. The current rollout is reminiscent of the 2022 introduction of DIY skin kits, which allowed users to create their own vinyl wraps. One variant, the “Deluxe” kit, included a sizable vinyl sheet along with Japanese tools, priced near $100, while a more affordable “Classic” option consisted of a small square of vinyl for $25.
The highly anticipated grass skins were supposed to launch last year, but achieving a realistic texture at a microscopic level proved to be a significant challenge, taking longer than the company had anticipated.
As outlined in their press release, Dbrand faced several technical hurdles, including the delicate process of electrostatically applying polyethylene fibers and ensuring they were cut cleanly for a quality finish.
Remember that creepy skin phone case?
In the realm of unconventional phone accessories, researcher Marc Teyssier from Télécom ParisTech unveiled Skin-On in 2019. This innovative prototype featured a touch interface that imitated human skin, providing a uniquely unsettling yet intriguing experience.

This prototype enabled smartphones, wearables, and touchpads to respond to various touch sensations, enhancing user interaction in an unnaturally lifelike way. However, it never progressed to market availability.
In contrast, Dbrand channels its creative ideas into tangible products, such as the Doomsday Kit and The DIY Project, blending humor and practicality to provide unique solutions in the tech accessory market.
