On Saturday, the much-anticipated musical, Dead Outlaw, made its Broadway debut at the Longacre Theatre. Enthusiastic audiences were treated to the first preview of this intriguing new show.
Dead Outlaw is a collaborative creation between writers David Yazbek, Erik Della Pena, and Itamar Moses, with David Cromer at the helm as director. The cast features talents such as Andrew Durand, Jeb Brown, Eddie Cooper, Dashiell Eaves, Julia Knitel, Ken Marks, Trent Saunders, and Thom Sesma. Among the understudies are Emily Fink, Justin Gregory Lopez, Noah Plomgren, Max Sangerman, Scott Stangland, and Graham Stevens.
Dead Outlaw offers a darkly comedic and profoundly creative take on the bizarre true story of Elmer McCurdy, an outlaw whose life and subsequent death led to a series of strange adventures that turned him into a posthumous celebrity. The musical delves into themes of notoriety, failure, and the quest for meaning—or the lack thereof—in one’s legacy. It presents the idea that life’s vibrancy can continue beyond death.
Dead Outlaw is set to continue its performances leading up to an official opening on Sunday, April 27.
