Upcoming North American Tour of “Death Becomes Her”
The highly anticipated production of Death Becomes Her is set to embark on a multi-year tour across North America, commencing in the fall of 2026. The tour will kick off at Playhouse Square in Cleveland, Ohio, and plans to travel to numerous cities, including Los Angeles, San Francisco, Denver, St. Louis, and Charlotte. The full itinerary and additional performances for the first year are expected to be revealed shortly.
The story revolves around Madeline Ashton, an actress who is famously self-assured regarding her looks and talent, and her frenemy, Helen Sharp, who finds herself overshadowed by Madeline’s presence. Their rivalry comes to a head when Madeline steals Helen’s fiancé, prompting Helen to seek revenge. Their lives take an unexpected turn with the arrival of Viola Van Horn, a mysterious figure armed with a secret potion that grants them renewed youth and beauty, along with a lifelong vendetta. The narrative explores themes of vanity and the consequences that accompany it, encapsulated in the biting phrase, “Life’s a bitch and then you die. This vibrant production showcases direction and choreography by the acclaimed Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli, with a book written by Marco Pennette, and an original score composed by Julia Mattison and Noel Carey. The design elements promise to impress, featuring scenic design by two-time Tony Award winner Derek McLane, award-winning costumes by Paul Tazewell, and an array of other talent including lighting by Justin Townsend and sound design by Peter Hylenski. Hair and wig design will be overseen by Charles LaPointe, whose expertise has earned him multiple accolades.
