Deepika Padukone Joins Shah Rukh Khan in Siddharth Anand’s King
Deepika Padukone’s involvement in the highly awaited film, King, featuring Shah Rukh Khan, has now been officially confirmed. The collaboration between these two iconic actors continues, with Padukone having previously appeared alongside Khan in numerous successful films, including Pathaan, Jawan, and Chennai Express.
Anticipation surrounding King is palpable as it features both Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan in leading roles. Recently, reports have emerged confirming Deepika Padukone’s role in the film, where she is set to portray a pivotal character. Although her role is described as an extended cameo, it is integral to the film’s narrative structure.
Speculation regarding Padukone’s participation in King circulated for several weeks, and sources have now indicated that her character will be the mother of Suhana Khan’s character and also Shah Rukh Khan’s former love interest. This character is expected to be central to the film’s conflict, enhancing the storyline’s emotional depth. Both Khan and director Siddharth Anand were reportedly eager for Padukone’s involvement, which she readily accepted, marking a significant addition to the film.
A Look at Previous Collaborations
Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have a rich history of successful collaborations, making their on-screen pairing a fan favorite. King will be their third consecutive project together following the major hits of Pathaan and Jawan, bringing their total collaborations to six, including titles like Chennai Express, Happy New Year, and Om Shanti Om. This rekindling of their cinematic chemistry is generating considerable excitement among audiences. In addition to King, there are indications that the two stars might reunite for Pathaan 2 under Yash Raj Films next year.
Insights on King
According to reports from Peeping Moon, King is inspired by the themes of the 2000 film Bichhoo, previously starring Bobby Deol and Karisma Kapoor, which itself was loosely based on the French film Léon: The Professional. While King is not a direct remake, it is anticipated that Shah Rukh Khan will portray a skilled assassin navigating a path of vengeance alongside Suhana’s character following a tragic event.
Originally directed by Sujoy Ghosh, Siddharth Anand has now taken the reins of the project after Ghosh’s departure. Initially, Khan’s role was expected to be a mere cameo; however, reports suggest that King will embody the quintessential elements of a Shah Rukh Khan film, including thrilling action sequences and romantic elements. Notably, the casting of Suhana’s parents, which involved Saif Ali Khan and Tabu, has since been retracted.
Director Siddharth Anand’s Work with SRK and Deepika
Anand is familiar with working alongside both leads, having directed them in the blockbuster Pathaan and collaborating with Deepika on other projects, such as Fighter and Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Filming for King is set to take place in various locations across India and Europe. The project is supported by Red Chillies Entertainment and Marflix, promising an expansive and visually captivating cinematic experience. Abhishek Bachchan will play the antagonist in the film, with actor Abhay Verma also taking on an important role. The film is expected to release towards the end of 2026.
