Deion Sanders Responds to NFL Speculation Regarding Sons
Deion Sanders, known as “Coach Prime” and currently the head coach of the Colorado Buffaloes, took to social media on Monday to express his frustration with certain users who speculate about the future NFL careers of his sons, Shedeur and Shilo Sanders. In a post on X, he called out those whom he referred to as “multiple IDIOTS” for making incorrect assumptions about where he desires his sons to play in the league.
The timing of Sanders’ comments aligns with significant developments in the NFL, particularly as Week 17 of the season caused a dramatic shift in the draft order for 2025. Notably, the New York Giants, who had secured the No. 1 overall pick, unexpectedly fell to No. 4 following a surprising victory against the Indianapolis Colts.
If the current standings remained unchanged, the New England Patriots would find themselves with the top selection after having drafted quarterback Drake Maye third overall in the previous April draft.
In his tweet, Sanders clarified, “It will be multiple IDIOTS that will say things that totally aren’t true regarding where I would like @ShedeurSanders & @ShiloSanders to play in the @nfl. If I say it, I will say it directly to whom it may concern, not to an attention seeker. I do know @nflcommish personally!”
This exchange comes in the wake of Shedeur Sanders sporting custom cleats featuring the Giants logo during his final game with the Buffaloes, a loss to BYU in the Valero Alamo Bowl. There has been growing speculation about Shedeur’s potential as a first overall pick in the upcoming draft, especially given the Giants’ current quarterback situation following the mid-season release of Daniel Jones.
Connections to the Giants have only strengthened, with recent sightings of Shedeur tossing a football with Giants rookie receiver Malik Nabers while in New York for teammate Travis Hunter’s Heisman Trophy ceremony.
Adding to the drama is the fact that the Tennessee Titans currently hold the No. 2 overall pick, looking to address their need for a quarterback, while the Cleveland Browns sit at No. 3, prompting questions about their plans for the future despite Deshaun Watson’s long-term contract.
As for Shilo Sanders, the 6-foot, 195-pound safety faces uncertainty regarding his draft prospects. While he showcases strong tackling abilities, analysts have raised concerns about his coverage skills and overall draft viability.
Coach Prime, however, is openly optimistic about Shedeur’s chances, boldly asserting that his son will be selected first overall. He has even hinted at his willingness to intervene if he perceives deficiencies in the organizational structure of any team that drafts Shedeur.
As the NFL draft approaches, the storylines surrounding the Sanders family and their futures in professional football continue to evolve. Observers will be watching closely to see how these narratives unfold, reminiscent of previous high-profile draft situations involving notable families.
