Delta Flight Diverted Due to Odor in Cabin

Passengers traveling on a Delta Air Lines flight from New York City to Orlando experienced an unexpected diversion to Raleigh, North Carolina, due to an “odor in the cabin,” as confirmed by airline representatives.

According to a Delta Air Lines spokesperson, Flight 2090 was en route from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Orlando International Airport (MCO) when the pilots decided to divert to Raleigh-Durham International Airport (RDU) on Saturday afternoon after detecting an unusual smell.

“Flight 2090 on February 1 from New York – John F. Kennedy (JFK) to Orlando (MCO) diverted to Raleigh (RDU) and landed safely after an odor was detected in the cabin,” the airline stated, adding, “We apologize to our customers for their delay in travel.”

The aircraft involved in the incident was an Airbus A321, which had departed JFK at 11:41 a.m. with an estimated arrival in Orlando scheduled for 2:30 p.m. At the time of the diversion, there were 158 passengers on board.

To ensure the travel needs of their customers were met, Delta arranged for the passengers to be transferred to a different plane later that evening or to be rebooked on earlier flights to reach their final destinations.

Meanwhile, another incident involving air travel over the same weekend raised concerns. A passenger on a United Airlines flight from Houston to New York shared alarming footage of one of the plane’s wings catching fire during takeoff. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that United Airlines Flight 1382 was evacuated at George Bush Intercontinental Airport due to a “reported engine issue.”

The FAA has stated that it is conducting an investigation into this incident. Passengers were safely deplaned on the runway using a combination of slides and stairs before being transported to the terminal. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries, and other arrangements were made for the passengers to continue their journey.

The cause of the odor that prompted Delta’s flight diversion remains unknown at this time. As investigations proceed, both airlines are focused on ensuring passenger safety and comfort during their travels.
