In an exciting matchup on January 11, 2025, the London Knights triumphed over the Owen Sound Attack with a final score of 6-4 at the Harry Lumley Bayshore Community Centre. The game’s standout player, Knights captain Denver Barkey, contributed significantly with two goals and two assists, showcasing his impressive form.
Over the last five games, Barkey has been on a scoring spree, amassing six goals and 12 assists, giving him a total of 18 points. The Knights came out strong, putting pressure on Owen Sound from the very first faceoff. Their efforts paid off quickly, as the team scored four times during the opening period.
Just 39 seconds into the game, Landon Sim opened the scoring, capitalizing on a pass from Sam Dickinson. Sim’s shot sailed past Attack goalie Carter George, giving London a 1-0 edge. Dickinson’s performance was noteworthy, as he finished the night with two assists.
During the first period, Easton Cowan, known for his impressive point streak, assisted Barkey on his first power play goal. Barkey soon netted another goal on the power play at the 16:05 mark, propelling his season point total to 50 and increasing the Knights’ lead to three goals. Blake Montgomery capped off a brilliant passing sequence to score just before the period ended, further extending London’s advantage to 4-0.
The second period saw a shift in momentum as the Attack fought back, attempting to close the gap. Cole Zurawski initiated the comeback by scoring at 4:03, but a subsequent goal of his was disallowed after being ruled offside. However, David Bedkowski managed to score, bringing Owen Sound closer at 4-2. Bruce McDonald then scored just seconds later, tightening the score to 4-3. McDonald had an opportunity to tie the game with a penalty shot but was thwarted by Knights goalie Austin Elliott.
As the third period unfolded, the Attack tied the game at 4-4 off a goal from Ben Cormier. But the Knights responded decisively. After a lengthy stalemate, London defenseman Cam Allen sent a shot from the right point that found its way into the net for what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Montgomery, continuing his impressive performance, teamed up with Barkey for another goal to seal the victory.
Overall, the Knights dominated the shot count, outshooting the Attack 45-21. They were efficient on special teams, converting two of seven power plays, while Owen Sound struggled to capitalize on their two power play opportunities. Elliott’s stellar performance in goal secured him the win, maintaining an undefeated record of 17-0-0-0 as a Knight.
