Local Woodworker Strives to Recover After Workshop Theft
A woodworker from northeast Calgary is seeking to regain his means of making a living following a break-in at his workshop over the recent long weekend.
Adam Baker, known on social media as The Chainsaw Ginger, creates intricate animal art from logs using a chainsaw. This creative pursuit not only helps him financially but also serves as a therapeutic outlet that aids in managing his mental health struggles and depression.
Baker reported that the burglary took place on Sunday evening, when intruders forced open the door to his garage. During the incident, two of his chainsaws and various essential tools were stolen, significantly impacting his ability to craft his artwork.
“They appeared to know what they were after,” Baker remarked. “They didn’t sift through items; they took the saws and the more costly tools and left.”
He estimates the replacement cost for the stolen equipment is around $4,000. Baker has promptly notified the Calgary Police about the theft, hoping for a swift resolution to the crime.
This incident not only underscores the challenges faced by local artisans but also highlights the importance of community support in recovering from setbacks. As Baker works to rebuild his collection of tools, he relies on the encouragement of fellow craftsmen and patrons who appreciate the art of woodworking.
In a time when individual craftsmanship is increasingly overshadowed by mass production, stories like Baker’s remind us of the value of local artistry, the personal stories behind the creations, and the resilience needed to overcome obstacles.
