Veteran actor Dharmendra has recently shared a heartfelt post on Instagram, reminiscing about his days alongside co-star Jaya Bachchan from their film Guddi. This nostalgic moment sheds light on their long-standing friendship, which has spanned several decades within the Indian film industry.
A Fond Tribute
In the shared post, which includes a photograph likely taken on the sets of the 2023 film Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, Dharmendra affectionately referred to Jaya as his “loving doll,” lauding her as a “world-class artist.” He expressed his admiration by writing, “Guddi will always be my loving doll. She is a world-class artist, and she always talks high about me. (From Guddi to Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani).”
The bond between Dharmendra and Bachchan dates back to 1971 when they starred together in Guddi. In this film, directed by Hrishikesh Mukherjee, Jaya portrayed a schoolgirl infatuated with Dharmendra, who made a significant guest appearance. This film marked a notable point in Jaya’s career, contributing to her reputation as an actress in the industry.
Fast forward to 2023, the duo reunited in Karan Johar’s family drama, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani. Released on July 28, the film achieved commercial success and resonated with audiences due to its engaging storyline that intertwined elements of family and romance. It also featured a talented ensemble cast, including Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury, Churni Ganguly, Aamir Bashir, and Kshitee Jog.
Jaya Bachchan’s allure and candid nature have made her a beloved figure, exemplified in her memorable appearance on Koffee with Karan Season 2 in 2007. During the episode, she, alongside Hema Malini, shared her youthful admiration for Dharmendra, recounting how his striking presence left her tongue-tied. She reminisced, “I should have played Basanti. Because I loved Dharmendra. When I saw him for the first time, I was so nervous that I hid behind a sofa!”
Hema Malini supported her friend’s sentiment, calling Jaya a “big fan” of Dharmendra. With a smile, Jaya described his outfit at that encounter, saying, “I still remember what he was wearing. He looked like a Greek God!” Karan Johar humorously added how Hema had shared similar feelings when she first met Dharmendra.
Throughout their film careers, Dharmendra and Jaya have collaborated on various classic films, including Chupke Chupke (1975), Samadhi (1972), and Piya ke Ghar (1972). Their on-screen chemistry and friendship continue to charm audiences, showcasing a legacy that resonates across generations.
