Diane Warren Reflects on Another Oscar Loss with Humor and Resolve

Diane Warren, the renowned songwriter, maintained her upbeat demeanor despite experiencing yet another disappointment at the Academy Awards this year. Although she was nominated for her original song “Journey” from Netflix’s “The Six Triple Eight,” she left the ceremony without a trophy, marking her 16th Oscar nomination without a win. The award for Best Original Song went to “El Mal” from “Emilia Pérez” instead.

Despite the outcome, Warren was spotted enjoying herself at the Vanity Fair after-party in Beverly Hills. “I’m consistent as ever,” she humorously remarked when approached on the red carpet. “It is what it is. I’m happy to be here.”

Her striking outfit included a message sewn into the collar of her jacket that read, “Make It F***ing Happen.”

Projecting an unwavering spirit, Warren added, “I’m the Terminator of the Oscars — I’ll be back. You can’t get rid of me.”

Determined not to linger on the loss, she stated her plans to return to work on Monday, emphasizing that this setback would not deter her. “This isn’t going to slow me down… I thought I had a chance this time. It didn’t go that way, but I’m still here,” she said.

In 2022, Warren received an honorary Oscar, presented by Cher, acknowledging her significant contributions to the music industry.

She also voiced her disappointment over the decision to exclude live performances of the best original song nominees from the Oscars ceremony, stating, “It would have been nice to hear the songs.”

H.E.R., the artist who performed “Journey,” echoed Warren’s sentiments regarding the missed opportunity to showcase their work during the awards show. Speaking at the Chateau Marmont prior to the Oscars, she expressed feeling “bummed” about the omission but remained positive. “Performing or not, the song’s gonna live on,” she affirmed, highlighting the enduring power of music, regardless of the performance stage.

H.E.R. added, “I look forward to those performances… but it’s totally fine. It’s still gonna be a great show, I think.”
