Loses 16th Oscar …
Ties Greg P. Russell for Most Losses Without Win

Diane Warren finds herself in a rather unfortunate milestone that few aspire to achieve. She has now tied the record for the most Oscar losses without a win, achieving this dubious distinction under rather challenging circumstances.
The talented singer-songwriter, who was honored with an Honorary Academy Award in 2022, was nominated for Best Original Song for her composition “The Journey” featured in the film “The Six Triple Eight.” However, the award ultimately went to “El Mal,” performed by Emilia Pérez, leading to yet another loss for Warren.
This recent nomination marks the 16th time that Warren has been nominated for an Academy Award without ever clinching a victory. In doing so, she now shares this record with sound engineer Greg P. Russell, who also holds 16 nominations without a win.
It’s interesting to note that while some sources indicate Russell has 17 nominations, one of those—his nod for “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi”—was revoked by the Academy Board of Governors. Thus, officially, both he and Warren stand at 16 nominations each without an Oscar victory.
Following the Oscar event, Warren expressed her optimism that perhaps this would be her lucky year. Unfortunately, her hopes did not materialize. In a light-hearted moment, she even quipped that she might collapse if she were ever to win, suggesting that her current streak might actually save her from such dramatics.
Despite the outcome, Diane enjoyed reconnecting with many esteemed colleagues and friends at the ceremony, reflecting on the connections and moments shared. Many attendees celebrated the achievements and artistry of all nominees, reinforcing the spirit of recognition that the Oscars aim to uphold.
Perhaps fate will smile differently upon Diane Warren next year. Until then, she remains a celebrated figure in the music industry, continuing to inspire with her work.
