Prosecutors Accuse Sean “Diddy” Combs of Jail Misconduct Amid Sex-Trafficking Case
Sean “Diddy” Combs faces allegations of violating jail regulations during his detention, with prosecutors asserting that these actions are aimed at influencing the outcome of his ongoing sex-trafficking trial. They are urging a judge to reject his recent bail request as a result of these claims.
The prosecutors’ filings indicate that Combs has been making concerted efforts to connect with potential witnesses or victims. Additionally, he allegedly requested his children to conduct social media campaigns designed to sway public sentiment.
These allegations emerged after prosecutors analyzed phone calls recorded during his detention, according to their latest court documents.
Combs was arrested on September 16 on charges of sex trafficking and racketeering. He is currently held at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center, awaiting his trial, which is set to begin on May 5. Combs has maintained his innocence and pleaded not guilty to all charges against him.
Earlier in the month, Combs’ legal representatives submitted a proposal for his immediate release following two failed bail attempts. Their proposal includes a $50 million bond, continuous home confinement, and stringent restrictions on contacts beyond his legal team.
Referencing “new evidence” and “changed circumstances,” Combs’ attorneys argued that his continued detention unjustly restricts his ability to prepare for his defense and participate in the trial process.
However, the prosecutors’ submission to the federal court indicates that Combs began violating prison protocols shortly after his arrival. They expressed that these actions demonstrate a pattern of disregard for rules, asserting, “The defendant cannot be trusted to abide by rules or conditions.”
Allegations presented by prosecutors suggest that Combs has expressed intentions to anonymously disseminate information that could aid in his defense, alongside attempts to reach out to potential witnesses, including those who allege mistreatment by him.
The filing further states that Combs appears to be attempting to intimidate victims and witnesses to ensure their silence, underscoring the assertion that he poses both a flight risk and a danger to the public, particularly given his alleged history of violence.
As of now, Combs’ legal team has not publicly commented on the recent allegations. A bail hearing is expected to take place late next week.
