Diljit Dosanjh Voices Concerns Over Alcohol-Related Regulations
Diljit Dosanjh has once again reacted strongly to the Telangana government’s notice advising him against performing songs that address themes of alcohol and drugs. The artist, who recently graced the stage in Ahmedabad during his Dil-Luminati tour, conveyed uplifting news to his audience. He noted that he had not encountered any restrictions from the Gujarat government and committed to avoiding songs about alcohol in light of the state’s prohibition laws.
In a statement, Dosanjh remarked, “Today I won’t perform such songs either. It’s manageable for me to modify my songs. I don’t consume alcohol myself. It’s simple. However, Bollywood artists are often seen endorsing alcohol, while I refrain from such advertisements. Please don’t provoke me; I quietly conduct my showcases wherever I go and simply move on. Why target me?”
The singer further declared that he would consider refraining from singing about alcohol only if the government implemented a nationwide prohibition. “If all states declare themselves dry, then I pledge never to sing about alcohol again in my life. This is a serious commitment. But is that likely? There’s significant revenue involved; even during the pandemic, many things remained operational. What are you discussing? You cannot mislead the youth,” he asserted.
Dosanjh highlighted that he performs numerous devotional tracks, which seem to garner little attention from the public or authorities. He extended a proposition, stating, “Wherever I perform, if you could declare that day a dry day, I would forgo singing any songs about alcohol. It’s not a problem for me. Once again, it’s straightforward to adapt my songs. I’m not a novice artist who can’t handle such requests without a dilemma on what to do. I’ll modify the song, and the experience will remain just as enjoyable.”
Contextually, the notice received by Dosanjh cautioned that he refrain from songs promoting alcohol, drugs, or violence during his performances. It also specified restrictions against using children at his shows and referenced concerns regarding the detrimental impact of loud noises and flashing lights on children’s health. This notice was issued following a complaint lodged by a Chandigarh resident through the District Welfare Officer of the local Department of Welfare for Women and Children, Disabled, and Senior Citizens in Rangareddy.
