Diplo Shocks CNN New Year’s Eve Hosts by Revealing LSD Use During Live Interview
During a lively New Year’s Eve broadcast, DJ Diplo, whose real name is Thomas Wesley Pentz, surprised CNN hosts Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper by disclosing that he was under the influence of LSD during a live virtual interview from Los Angeles. The unexpected revelation came as he hosted his own New Year’s Eve event at Avalon in Hollywood.
Cohen, intrigued by Diplo’s experiences, quizzed him about the most unconventional setting in which he had taken LSD. To their astonishment, Diplo replied, “Right now. I did some on the helicopter on the way here,” while wearing a broad smile.
The co-hosts were visibly taken aback; Cohen exclaimed, “Right now?!” while Cooper, who had been partaking in tequila shots throughout the night, burst out laughing uncontrollably.
The humorous exchange continued, with Cohen attempting to process the DJ’s admission. “Oh, my God. Hold on. Hold on. Hold on,” he said as Cooper struggled to regain his composure. Cohen then asked, “You’re tripping right now?” to which Diplo confirmed, sharing that he had been “micro-dosing” and admitted he may have “macro-dosed” earlier that day.
Cohen later expressed both admiration and envy towards Diplo’s lifestyle, remarking, “I wish I was Diplo. I just think he has a fun, cool lifestyle. Can you imagine his lifestyle? ‘I’m Diplo. I do things.’” Meanwhile, Cooper lightheartedly commented, “We don’t recommend this at home,” quipping that his own life felt “boring” in comparison to the DJ’s vibrant existence.
The New Year’s Eve broadcast was not without its share of humor. The event included partially censored jokes from comedian Whitney Cummings about the Boy Scouts of America. Roy Wood Jr., host of “Have I Got News for You,” chose not to partake in on-air drinking, referencing the dismissal of former CNN anchor Don Lemon with the line, “The last Black man to drink on this network got fired.”
This year’s celebrations were anything but ordinary, as viewers tuned in to witness the blend of unexpected moments and lighthearted commentary, making it a memorable start to the New Year.
