A newly introduced Druddigon card in Pokémon TCG Pocket’s Mythical Island set is generating excitement among players, with many heralding it as one of the standout additions to the game. Its unique Ability and a surprisingly effective attack are contributing to its popularity.
Despite the variety of types seen in the Pokémon TCG Pocket, Dragon and Metal types have traditionally been sidelined. The game has primarily spotlighted types such as Electric, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Normal, Psychic, and Water, due in part to their connection with fan-favorite Pokémon.
Druddigon stands out as the sole new Dragon card in the Mythical Island expansion, often overshadowed by more hyped cards like Celebi ex. However, discussions on platforms such as PTCGP Reddit are urging players to reconsider Druddigon’s potential and include it in their decks.
Druddigon is far stronger than Pokémon Pocket fans realized
The Rough Skin Ability is a critical aspect of Druddigon’s effectiveness, inflicting 20 damage back to any attacking Pokémon. Utilizing a Potion immediately afterward can turn this into a strategic advantage, allowing for a secondary attack without cost.
One Reddit user likened Druddigon to the now-popular Kangaskhan, noting that it functions as an early-game wall while only costing one prize card, making it versatile and strategically valuable.
Another user praised its design, noting that while it may not be overwhelmingly powerful, it opens up various strategies and contributes to a diverse meta. Comments such as “A staller that does passive damage is great” further highlight its tactical utility.
Combining Rough Skin with the 90 damage from Dragon Claw allows Druddigon to potentially eliminate several threats in one turn, particularly when synergized with Giovanni’s ability. With no weaknesses, Druddigon can accumulate damage on weaker Basic Pokémon over successive turns.

While Druddigon does come with a notable two Energy Retreat Cost, the introduction of the Leaf Supporter card in Mythical Island now offers a way to mitigate this by allowing players to retreat it without a cost.
Moreover, the fact that Druddigon is not classified as an ex card works to its advantage, permitting players to use two Druddigon as a defensive barrier while preparing another Pokémon to enter the fray. The main limitation lies in its dependency on Fire and Water energies for Dragon Claw, which constrains options for deck planning.
Currently, the competitive Pokémon Pocket environment is heavily influenced by strong cards like Mew ex and Vaporeon, which aim for rapid knockouts. In this scenario, a strategically deployed Druddigon could serve as an effective counter, introducing new dynamics to the evolving game landscape.
