Monterey Beach Hotel Makes a Grand Comeback with Modern Flair
A cherished establishment in California is set to welcome guests once again.
Real estate investment firm Ascendant Capital Partners has partnered with global hospitality management firm Highgate and investment manager Centerbridge Partners to announce the revival of the Monterey Beach Hotel, now part of the Marriott Tribute Portfolio. Initially opened in 1967, the hotel has been beautifully renovated to merge its nostalgic charm with contemporary luxury, catering to the tastes of today’s travelers.
According to the renovation team, this property stands out as the sole beachfront hotel in the Monterey Peninsula. It features 600 feet of private shoreline exclusively for guests. The hotel’s interior offers 192 rooms, including four suites, designed in soothing neutral colors, many of which boast expansive windows showcasing breathtaking ocean views.
“Monterey Beach Hotel captures the spirit of the Monterey Peninsula and reflects a quintessential central California coastal experience. Our renovation aimed to uplift this unique property dramatically,” stated Alex Halpern, co-founder and chief investment officer of Ascendant. “With modern interiors and enhanced dining options, the hotel represents a synergy of ocean, nature, and the diverse community that gives Monterey its appeal. We are thrilled to reintroduce this iconic property with a fresh aesthetic and elevated experiences that truly embody this special location on the coast.”
Designed by a talented Los Angeles-based team from Indidesign, the hotel features California coastal design elements throughout. Guests will encounter vibrant mixed media artwork created by local artists, along with unique ceramic pieces and bold murals that add a playful spirit to the atmosphere.
The hotel’s common areas and its three dining venues highlight local craftsmanship, offering selections such as Captain + Stoker coffee, Alvarado Street craft beer, and Ad Astra breads, showcasing regional flavors.
At the core of the hotel lies the Lobby Lounge, a versatile space where guests can enjoy everything from morning coffee to sunset happy hours. The menu emphasizes locally sourced ingredients, providing a variety of light bites for sharing. For those seeking a more substantial meal, The Lantern Room serves up farm-to-table cuisine in a nautical-themed environment.
For guests looking for a relaxed yet lively dining experience, Tidewater invites patrons to unwind with cocktails by the beachfront, featuring firepits and lounge seating, perfect for enjoying live music and stunning sunsets.
In keeping with California’s wellness culture, the hotel boasts a heated outdoor pool and hot tub, along with plans to launch a Scandinavian-inspired wellness program this fall. Guests can look forward to amenities like barrel saunas, ice baths, and complimentary Zybra e-bikes for exploring the scenic Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail.
“We are eager to make our mark in welcoming travelers and local community members to the revamped Monterey Beach Hotel,” said Nathan Hanner, the hotel’s general manager. “Our establishment is distinguished by a reimagined experience, top-notch dining, and exceptional hospitality.”
Monterey Beach Hotel is now accepting reservations, with room rates starting at $350 per night.
