Asit Modi Discusses the Importance of Reintroducing Dayaben in TMKOC

Dayaben, a beloved character from the long-running series Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah (TMKOC), has been absent for a considerable time. The role was originally portrayed by Disha Vakani, who left the show for maternity leave in 2018 and has since not returned. Recently, Asit Modi, the show’s creator, disclosed that Disha Vakani is unlikely to reprise her role.

In a recent conversation with News18 Showsha, Asit Modi elaborated on the significance of bringing Dayaben back and acknowledged the delays experienced by the production team. “It is crucial to reintegrate Dayaben into the series because I also miss her,” he expressed. He noted that various external factors have contributed to the postponement of her return, citing events such as the 2024 elections, the IPL, and the cricket World Cup, along with seasonal changes.

Further discussing the situation, Modi indicated that Disha Vakani’s current focus is on her family, particularly her two children, making her comeback to the show challenging. “I am still trying. I believe Disha Vakani can’t be back. She has two children. She is like my sister. Even today, we have a very close relationship with her family,” he shared. Modi emphasized the deep bond formed over their 17 years of collaboration, referring to Vakani’s family as his own.

He recognized the difficulties faced by women balancing work and family life, stating, “For women, life changes after marriage. Working with small children and managing the house is really a bit difficult for them.” Despite this, he maintained a hopeful outlook, expressing a desire for a “miracle” that could facilitate Vakani’s return. However, he also alluded to the necessity of finding a new actress to fill Dayaben’s role if circumstances prevent her from coming back.

Concluding his remarks, Asit Modi mentioned plans for a grand re-entry for Dayaben, stating that auditions for the character are currently in progress. The future of Dayaben remains uncertain, but the dedication to the character and the desire for her return reflect the cherished legacy she has left on the series.
