DJI Introduces the Mic Mini: A Compact Wireless Lavalier Microphone
DJI has launched the latest addition to its wireless lavalier microphone series, the Mic Mini. This model is designed to be more compact than its predecessors, the Mic and Mic 2, while introducing new features and enhanced battery performance.
The Mic Mini package comes with two wireless transmitters that can easily be attached to clothing through magnetic or clip-on mechanisms. Emphasizing discretion, the design is lightweight and unobtrusive, ensuring it won’t garner much attention during use. Additionally, users will find windscreens included, ideal for outdoor recording in blustery conditions.
The accompanying wireless receiver unit is versatile, allowing connections to a range of devices, including cameras, smartphones, tablets, and computers via both USB-C and 3.5mm TRS connectors. Users can connect the receiver to a smartphone and simultaneously charge both the transmitter and the phone through its USB port.
Furthermore, the transmitters can also be directly paired with smartphones or tablets through Bluetooth. They are compatible with specific DJI Osmo Ecosystem devices, such as the Osmo Action 4 Pro, Osmo Action 4, or Osmo Pocket 3, eliminating the need for the receiver in these scenarios.
One of the standout features of the Mic Mini is its two-level noise cancelation system, which allows users to choose between a Basic setting suitable for quieter indoor environments and a Strong setting for outdoor use. To prevent audio distortion, the system also includes an automatic limiting capability that lowers the recording volume as needed. An additional safety track can be recorded, which is 6dB quieter than the main track, providing a backup option in case the primary recording is too loud.
The receiver is capable of pairing with two transmitters at once, offering the flexibility to either record each microphone separately or merge the audio into a mono or stereo track. For fine-tuning, a five-step gain adjustment dial is included on the receiver.
The standard package comes with a charging case that can recharge both transmitters and the receiver up to 3.6 times, allowing for a total usage time of approximately 48 hours. Each transmitter provides about 11.5 hours of battery life, while the receiver lasts around 10.5 hours. A quick five-minute charge offers about an hour of use, making it convenient for on-the-go recording.
The Mic Mini’s standard kit is priced at $169, but there is also an option for a base kit that includes a single transmitter and receiver for $89. Extra transmitters can be purchased for $59 each, and users with devices featuring a Lightning connector can acquire a compatible adapter for $19.
The DJI Mic Mini is now available for purchase via the DJI website and through various retailers.
