DOJ Investigating Disney-FuboTV Deal Due to Competition Issues, Reports Bloomberg News

The U.S. Department of Justice is currently investigating Disney’s agreement to acquire a controlling interest in FuboTV, according to a report from Bloomberg News. This inquiry is focused on determining whether the acquisition may lead to an unhealthy concentration within the sports streaming market.

As of now, neither Disney, FuboTV, nor the Justice Department have provided any comments regarding the situation.

Earlier this year, Disney announced plans to merge its Hulu + Live TV service with FuboTV, positioning the new entity as the second-largest online pay-TV provider in North America, surpassed only by YouTube TV.

Under the terms of the merger, Disney will control a 70% majority stake in the combined operation, which will be spearheaded by FuboTV’s CEO and co-founder, David Gandler. It’s important to note that this deal does not include Hulu’s primary video-streaming platform.
