Donald Trump Throws Shade at Taylor Swift During Eagles’ White House Visit

In February, the Philadelphia Eagles celebrated their Super Bowl victory against the Kansas City Chiefs, triumphing with a score of 40-22. The event was marked by exuberant celebrations across the city, including parades and a formal White House visit by select team members. During this visit, former President Donald Trump notably diverted attention from the Eagles’ win to reference pop star Taylor Swift.

“The game was remarkable, somewhat unexpected, and I experienced it live in person,” Trump remarked. “I was present with Taylor Swift; how did that situation arise?” Swift had attended the game to support Travis Kelce, a player for the Chiefs and her partner for the past two years.

Trump has had a longstanding contentious relationship with Swift, particularly since she publicly supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election and expressed regret for not endorsing a candidate in 2016. Following the Super Bowl, he shared on Truth Social that “the only one who faced a tougher evening than the Kansas City Chiefs was Taylor Swift. She was booed out of the Stadium. MAGA has a strong memory.”

Interestingly, Trump’s prior support for the Chiefs made his comments about their defeat seem even more puzzling and hypocritical. According to Reuters, when Trump entered the Caesars Superdome, he was met with mixed reactions from the crowd—a blend of cheers and boos. This marked a noteworthy moment as he became the first sitting president to attend a Super Bowl, despite having a fraught history with the NFL. Swift received a similar mixed reception when shown on the stadium’s Jumbotron, yet Trump attempted to manipulate the narrative by sharing uncaptioned side-by-side videos that showcased the contrasting reactions: his cheers and her boos.

Trump’s focus on Swift, as if she were directly involved in the game, may be seen as a distraction from the Eagles players who opted not to attend the White House event. Notably, when star quarterback Jalen Hurts was queried about his plans to visit, he offered an awkward pause followed by hasty departure. Ultimately, he chose not to attend, alongside several other players, who cited scheduling conflicts, as reported by the NFL.

Trump had previously expressed intentions to invite the Chiefs to the White House after the Eagles, hoping to rectify a missed opportunity from 2020 when the Chiefs couldn’t visit due to COVID-19 restrictions.
