The recent casting announcement for Avengers: Doomsday has taken an unconventional approach, opting for a lengthy live stream that revealed the cast members through an intriguing setup of director’s chairs marked with actors’ names. Fans have been treated to a mix of nostalgia as several characters from the original X-Men trilogy are set to return, alongside familiar faces from the upcoming Thunderbolts film. However, this reveal stirred up unexpected feelings among some of the actors involved.

In a discussion with ScreenRant, Wyatt Russell, known for his role as John Walker, and David Harbour, who portrays Red Guardian, shared their candid reactions to the prolonged reveal process. Harbour expressed that the long wait and suspense created anxiety for him: “I mean, I’ll tell you, what it did create in me was anxiety. Because that chair thing went on for so long, and they paused for 30 minutes.” While viewers were buzzing with anticipation, the director’s chair extravaganza had the opposite effect on Harbour.

Russell mirrored those sentiments, revealing his own concerns about not knowing whether he was part of the film or not. “It brought back PTSD for me. I swear to God. I was like, ‘Wait a second…'” he recounted. The overwhelming number of names made him question his own presence, adding to the mounting excitement and anxiety surrounding the film.

The Thunderbolts Will Ride Again in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

In addition to Russell and Harbour, the cast of Thunderbolts is set to welcome back other notable actors, including Florence Pugh, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman, for Avengers: Doomsday. The film will introduce multiversal elements, centering around Robert Downey Jr.’s return as Doctor Doom, which will compel heroes from various dimensions to unite. This connection to the impending Secret Wars raises questions about how these characters from Thunderbolts will fit into the broader narrative.

The humorous yet anxious responses from Russell and Harbour highlight their excitement about participating in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) while also reflecting a desire to keep specific details under wraps. Just as with previous Avengers films, directors Joe and Anthony Russo are expected to maintain tight control over any spoilers regarding the storyline and the culmination of the Multiverse Saga. Nevertheless, fans remain hopeful for teasers or behind-the-scenes glimpses that might surface before the film’s release.

The prospects for Avengers: Doomsday signify one of the most expansive projects the MCU has tackled thus far. As the studio gears up for upcoming releases like Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four: First Steps, excitement builds among fans and industry insiders alike for this pivotal moment in the ongoing saga.
