Ontario’s Premier Doug Ford has expressed his enthusiasm for the upcoming Stanley Cup playoffs, particularly hoping for a victorious run by the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Leafs are poised to compete against the Ottawa Senators in a playoff match for the first time in over two decades.
As the Senators aim to return to the postseason for the first time since 2017, the Maple Leafs have consistently qualified for the playoffs since then; however, their postseason achievements have been limited, with just one playoff round win in that span.

Having spent much of his life in Etobicoke, a suburb of Toronto, Ford’s affinity for the Leafs runs deep, as he cultivated his fanhood from a young age. The Montreal Canadiens last brought the Stanley Cup to Canada in 1993 when they triumphed over Wayne Gretzky’s Los Angeles Kings.
When asked about the prospects of the Senators surpassing the Leafs in the series, Ford maintained a diplomatic tone, dodging definitive predictions about the game outcomes.
“Someone mentioned I should wear one of those split jerseys representing both teams, but ultimately, I just want an exciting matchup,” Ford remarked.
In the spirit of the rivalry, he acknowledged, “It’s no secret I’ve always been a Leafs supporter, but above all, my wish is for a Canadian team to clinch the Stanley Cup.” The highly anticipated series is set to commence on Sunday.
“I am eagerly looking forward to Sunday’s game—may the best team emerge victorious,” Ford declared, sharing a grin. “Go Leafs go! Sorry, that just slipped out.”
