The drummer for the Canadian rock band The New Pornographers, Joseph Seiders, has faced serious legal charges related to child pornography and child molestation. The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in California announced on April 7 that deputies were dispatched to a business in Palm Desert after receiving a report from an 11-year-old boy who claimed a man had recorded him using the restroom.
Two days later, a second report emerged from the same location. Employees at the business alerted the authorities that a man was seen frequently entering and exiting the restroom where young boys were present, raising concerns he might be linked to the earlier incident.
When the deputies arrived, they identified and arrested Seiders, who is 44 years old and resides in Palm Desert. Seiders became a member of The New Pornographers in 2014, a band that originated in Vancouver, B.C. in 1997. Following the allegations against him, the band released a statement on social media expressing their shock and horror at the situation, confirming they had immediately cut ties with Seiders.
The investigation, led by the Palm Desert Station Investigations Bureau, involved executing search warrants on Seiders’ home, vehicle, and cell phone. Authorities uncovered evidence linking him to the reported incidents, as well as additional charges related to the possession of child pornography.
Seiders has been booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio, facing multiple counts including possession of child pornography, child annoyance/molestation, invasion of privacy, and attempted invasion of privacy.
