Dwight Yorke Takes Helm as Head Coach of Trinidad and Tobago National Football Team
In a significant development for Trinidad and Tobago football, Dwight Yorke, the former Manchester United and national team striker, has been appointed as the head coach of the country’s national team.
The 52-year-old Yorke boasts an impressive international career, having earned 72 caps for Trinidad and Tobago from 1989 to 2009, during which he scored 19 goals and led the team as captain in the 2006 FIFA World Cup held in Germany.
Prior to this role, Yorke served as an assistant manager for the Trinidad and Tobago national team after hanging up his boots in 2009, gaining valuable experience that he now brings to the head coaching position.
This marks Yorke’s second foray into management, following his tenure with Australian A-League club Macarthur FC. He guided the team during the 2022-2023 season, achieving a record of 10 wins, 3 draws, and 6 losses in 19 matches, and clinching the Australia Cup title.
