In an unexpected move, Dynabook has launched its T series featuring the latest 13th-generation Intel processors, while NEC has unveiled the Lavie N16, equipped with a blend of AMD Ryzen 7 and Intel 12th-generation processors.
The standout feature of these 2025 business laptops is their inclusion of built-in optical drives, contrasting sharply with the industry’s current tendency towards ultra-slim designs that prioritize portability over the ability to play physical media.

The Dynabook T series is designed with a 16-inch display, showcasing a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels across all models.
This series offers four configurations: T5/Y, T6/Y, T7/Y, and T9/Y. Notably, the T9/Y model is the only one equipped with a Blu-ray Disc drive, while the others utilize a DVD Super Multi-Drive.
The T9/Y and T7/Y models harness the power of Intel Core i7-1360P and i7-1355U processors, respectively, and are enhanced with dual cooling fans for optimal performance.
On the other hand, the T6/Y and T5/Y models are fitted with Intel Core i3-1305U and i5-1335U processors and feature a single cooling fan configuration.
Memory options for the T series range from 16GB to 32GB of RAM, alongside storage capacities that span from a 256GB to a 1TB SSD, with users benefiting from the capability to upgrade memory through a dedicated access panel on the bottom.
This series is well-equipped with connectivity options, including three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, one Thunderbolt 4 (USB4 Type-C) port, an HDMI output, a wired LAN port, and a microphone/audio jack, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
The pricing for the T series begins at approximately 160,000 yen (around $1,046) for the entry-level T5/Y and goes up to approximately 280,000 yen (about $1,830) for the top-end T9/Y model.

The NEC Lavie N16 is launched in three distinct configurations: the N1675/JA, N1655/JA, and N1635/JA series. Each model features a 16-inch WUXGA IPS LCD with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, and all are equipped with a DVD Super Multi-Drive.
The prime N1675/JA configuration is powered by an AMD Ryzen 7 7735U processor coupled with a 512GB SSD. The mid-tier N1655/JA and base N1635/JA models incorporate Intel Core i5-1235U and Core i3-1215U processors, respectively, both having 256GB SSDs.
Connectivity options on the Lavie N16 include a USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port, two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, an HDMI output, a wired LAN port, a microphone/audio jack, along with support for Wi-Fi 6E.
The pricing for the Lavie N16 ranges from 154,800 yen (around $1,013) to 184,800 yen (approximately $1,209), making it a competitive option for those in need of solid performance combined with optical drive functionality.
