Electronic Arts (EA) is making significant reductions to its workforce, with plans to cut “between 300 and 400 positions.” This restructuring also involves the cancellation of a game within the Titanfall universe, referred to as R7, which was under development at Respawn Entertainment, as reported by Bloomberg.
In a statement provided to Bloomberg, EA spokesperson Justin Higgs remarked, “To maintain our focus on long-term strategic priorities, we’ve implemented select organizational changes that better align our teams and allocate resources, ultimately driving future growth.”
Respawn addressed this development in a post on X, noting that they had to cancel two projects still in “early-stage incubation” and make several adjustments to their teams across titles like Apex Legends and Star Wars Jedi. The statement expressed gratitude towards the affected employees, acknowledging the difficulty of such decisions.
IGN has reported that around 100 employees from Respawn were let go, including developers, QA personnel, and publishing staff. Additionally, some of the displaced workers have been reassigned to EA Motive for its Iron Man project, the Battlefield series, and various other initiatives.
Furthermore, Daniel Suarez, previously Respawn’s SVP of operations, has been appointed as the studio’s General Manager, reporting directly to co-founder and CEO Vince Zampella. This shift follows EA placing Zampella in charge of the Battlefield franchise during an internal restructuring in 2021.
